Smoke alarms………..again

Posted on by Gavin

The first automatic electric fire alarm was invented in 1890 by Francis Robbins Upton who was an associate of Thomas Edison. By 1965, smoke alarms had become more affordable to the general public.

It still amazes me that over 125 years after their invention, some people still fail to have this incredibly valuable, lifesaving piece of equipment in their homes.

On the 8th March 2015, France introduced legislation which required ALL residential properties to have at least 1 smoke alarm fitted. England will be following suit in October 2015. UK residents will be required to have at least 1 smoke alarm and 1 carbon monoxide alarm fitted in all rental properties. It is a big step in the right direction. I hope to see in the next 10 years the All properties, be commercial, industrial and residential have smoke and Carbon monoxide alarms fitted throughout the EU.
